IN FOCUS: NINEBOT-SEGWAY
The name Segway has been enshrined in the history of personal electric transport for decades, but the real story of their involvement in the world of electric scooters began in 2015 when a privately held, Beijing based company called Ninebot, merged with Segway to form… you guessed it; Ninebot-Segway.
Segway was originally founded in 1999 by inventor Dean Kamen. He had noticed a young man in a wheelchair struggling to mount a pavement. Most people would place the blame on an ineffective wheelchair, but he saw something totally different. He saw a world that was built for people who could balance. Dean and his team set about creating a technology that would come to define his company’s now world-famous product line of personal mobility vehicles. This was the birth of the IBOT Mobility system, a self-balancing mobility device created to enable uses to negotiate uneven surfaces and climb stairs. It quickly became clear to him that such a device could provide numerous benefits to people with full-mobility and within three years Segway, a name derived from the word segue (to transition smoothly) launched their first personal transporters.
Off the back of this product a globally renowned personal transport empire was formed and with the 2015 merger with Ninebot, Ninebot-Segway’s focus shifted to the burgeoning electric scooter market. By the end of the year they had launched the iconic ONE E+ single wheel blade transporter. In 2017 they delivered the first instalments in their Electric Kick scooter series with the ES1, ES2 and ES4 models. With the ES range Ninebot-Segway provided a variety of lightweight but powerful scooters, with modern sleek designs and enough power to reach speeds of 25kmh. With a fast recharging time of 3.5 hours and the ability to cover vast distances on one charge, these scooters were built with the city and the commuter in mind. The success of the ES range launched a huge series of electric scooters which boasted higher performance and better technology as the years went on, and today the their flagship MAX series has positioned itself at the very top of the electric scooter industry as a result of its unbeatable performance, innovative tech and sleek beautiful design. The MAX G30D offers the longest range in its class at 40miles and its 10inch pneumatic tyres offer riders the most dependable and comfortable ride yet. To make things even better it was the first street legal kick scooter designed for the European market, and with the new GT and F series released this year, Ninebot-Segway yet again position themselves as industry innovators.
Keeping it green has always been the Focus of Ninebot-Segway and from the very beginning, they have remained true to their original vision. Ninebot-Segway continue to put all of their efforts into producing practical and environmentally friendly short distance transport alternatives. In doing so they help you to help the planet, in the most enjoyable way that they (or we for that matter!) can think of.
